Barry B. LePatner, Esq. Named Honorary Member of the AIA
*** Press Release ***
New York, NY, March 7, 2002 – Barry B. LePatner & Associates, LLP is pleased to announce the election of its founding partner, Barry B. LePatner, to Honorary Membership in the American Institute of Architects. Honorary membership in the AIA is one of the highest honors the organization can bestow upon an individual who is not an architect and is granted to those who have devoted their careers in service to the profession.
"To be recognized by the profession of architects who have contributed so much to our nation's built environment is one of the high points of my legal career," LePatner said. "I have the highest admiration for the profession and for the many outstanding architects I have had the pleasure of working with for more than twenty-five years."
The core of his legal practice has focused on real estate, design and construction related issues. During the course of his career, Mr. LePatner has testified on major building failures at congressional hearings, has spoken at numerous public forums and been appointed to AIA-sponsored blue ribbon panels. His impressive body of work – articles, speeches and lectures – reflects a deep understanding of, and respect for, the culture of the architect and the constant struggle with reconciling the art of architecture with the business of architecture.
His admiration is plainly shared by the many renowned architects who sponsored his nomination. A. Eugene Kohn, FAIA, President of Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, commented, "Barry's knowledge, experience and humor combined with enormous commitment and dedication make him an ideal AIA Honorary Member...I cannot think of anyone more deserving."
Lenore M. Lucey, Executive Vice President of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, stated that "His far reaching public presence, advocating quality design, has raised clients' awareness of the necessity of award winning architecture to support and enhance the business plan."
Harold L. Adams, Chairman of RTKL Associates, Inc., had the following words of support: "Barry has done much to demystify the complexities surrounding the legal aspects of the profession, drafting contracts that are simple, clear and absent of vague conditions."
LePatner, who established his practice in 1980, has served regularly since 1991 as a presenter in the Harvard Graduate School of Design's summer seminar program.
His firm publishes the highly-regarded LePatner Report, a quarterly newsletter sent free of charge to thousands of the firm's clients and friends worldwide, and which always contains valuable information on practice issues related to trends and topics that are closely watched by members of the real estate, design and construction communities.
LePatner also owns an impressive collection of architectural drawings – a personal hobby that reflects his deep appreciation for the artistry and complexity of the design profession.
LePatner will join fellow Honorees as they receive their Honorary degrees during the AIA's annual convention to be held from May 9th to 11th at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, NC.
